Here’s a quick development sequence. I hope you enjoy it!

Starting with a gessoed Panel in this case a 9 x 12 Dibond Aluminum Panel .I begin by laying down a toned ground of Burnt Umber thinned with medium. Next, I draw into the dark ground revealing the lighter tone underneath. Following where I see light describing form. This step is done with dry brush, q-tips, and a rag to selectively remove paint.

The next step is to come back in with the toned color creating more darks, and still subtracting as needed to create more lights as well. The big idea is create form with the appearance of light. Staying away from drawing or filling in an outline.

Next step, is to now come back in with now some opaque grays and begin to further develop and reinforce the value relationships, which creates more detail. The last step is to find the highlights and dark accents.
